📋 Source Methodology & Reliability Tiers

CityIntel applies a three-tier reliability framework to all ingested data before display.

TIER 1

Verified — Multiple confirmed sources or official statements. Government agencies, wire services with editorial oversight, or cross-confirmed by two or more independent Tier 2 sources within 6 hours.

TIER 2

Corroborated — Two or more reputable confirmations within 12 hours. Accredited regional media, vetted NGO channels, or automated API feeds from established public bodies (TfL, National Rail, UKPN etc.).

TIER 3

Preliminary — Early indicators pending confirmation. Displayed with a caution flag. Social signals, single-source reports, or API feeds without editorial review. Elevated to Tier 2 on cross-confirmation.

Events shown as High Risk generally meet Tier 1 or 2 criteria within the previous 48 hours. Automated transport and power data is always Tier 2 (official public body) and displayed as-is without reliability scoring.

🔒 Data Handling & Integrity

Ingestion & caching

Transport and power data is cached for 5 minutes per request in Cloudflare D1. Flight data caches for 3–10 minutes depending on mode. News feeds cache for 15–60 minutes. All cache keys are timestamped and version-tagged.

Geolocation accuracy

Event coordinates are resolved at the city level using GeoNames and supplemented by provider-supplied geodata. Proximity checks use Haversine distance calculations. Coordinates are validated before storage.

Archive & expiry

Expired or rescinded alerts are automatically archived and removed from active views. Restoration data for power outages is preserved for continuity tracking.
